NASA 1st Explorer Rover Challenge System Safety Engineering Award
A matter of pride for all the ASISians
Recently one of our ex-students Viranch Shah has participated in a competition organized by NASA, USA, and won the first prize for his college. The details of the same are as follows :
Team Technovators from SVKM’s NMIMS Mukesh Patel School of Technology, Management & Engineering, Vile Parle participated at NASA’s 1st Human Explorer Rover Challenge, held at NASA’s Marshall Space Flight Centre, Huntsville, Alabama from 10th to 12th April 2014, and won Best System Safety Engineering Award
The challenge focuses on building a Rover which is human-powered capable of carrying two students, one male, and one female, over a half-mile obstacle course of simulated extraterrestrial terrain of craters, boulders, ridges, inclines, crevasses, and ruts. A total of 98 teams from all over the world participated in this prestigious competition.
The total weight of the rover is 36kg which was made of aluminum and steel and, 5ft in length and width respectively. The Rover took shape at a workshop in Bandra in Mumbai. Viranch Shah who is part of the team says We are the only team from India to win Award and this award is given to the team exemplifying best safety practice
The whole rover was dismantled and packed in three boxes and was taken by the team along with them to the competition.
Winning this award is the greatest achievement of mine to date. I had a great experience during this competition got the chance to interact with various teams from different countries. It was an out of this world experience.
After winning the award our articles were published in newspapers like the Times of India and various local languages.
