October 2^nd marks the birth anniversary of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi and is celebrated as Gandhi Jayanti across the country. The United Nations also celebrates October 2 as the International Day of Non-Violence to honor Gandhi’s belief in peace and non-violence.

The 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was celebrated with great enthusiasm on the school campus. A devotional ambiance prevailed with meaningful prayer by the choir team. Audio clip of one of Gandhiji’s motivational speech was played and based on that the host asked questions to invoke mass participation.  This was followed by the speech given by students of ASIS about this great freedom fighter of our country.

To add to the color of the day the choir group sang Gandhiji’s favorite bhajan “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram…” To uphold the spirit of patriotism, the value of non-violence, students of SBPS performed a fascinating and heart touching dance on Vaishnav Jaan to …….. -Class 10 student of SBPS used this platform to sensitize the fellow students about Gandhiji’s views on cleanliness and delivered a speech in Hindi highlighting the mission started by Shri Narendra Modi on Swacha Bharat Abhiyan – Clean India Mission in 2014.

Under this program, all the students of 8th and 9th of SBPS participated and even teachers were an essential part of this drive. As a part of this Cleanliness Drive, we had to clean the whole school. Some of us picked brooms and started our job. Some of the students did the dusting of the rooms. And others went to the playground and started picking wrappers lying scattered there. After collecting them they threw them into the dustbins. The main purpose of this program was to create awareness among the students regarding cleanliness and its benefits.

It’s time to remember what Gandhiji said –“A clean nation is more important than an independent nation”.
